Anne’s professional journey has been shaped not by a single institution or title but by sustained work across some of the most complex environments in mental healthcare. Her experience spans outpatient and inpatient settings rehabilitation and intervention programs court involved systems and correctional facilities including Rikers Island and Nassau County Correctional Facility. She has also worked extensively with individuals with developmental and learning disabilities. These experiences have informed her deep understanding of trauma access neurodiversity and the structural realities that often shape and limit mental healthcare delivery.
Her academic foundation began at Hofstra University where she pursued a liberal arts education in psychology, history and English. She later completed graduate degrees in rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling and continued her education through addiction studies, mindfulness based cognitive therapy training, healthcare administration and PhD level coursework in mental health counseling. This expansive academic path allows Anne to move fluidly between direct care consultation and systems leadership with clarity and ethical grounding.
Through Petraro Consulting Anne advises mental health organizations professionals and initiatives with insight that can only come from having worked inside the systems she now helps guide. Her consulting work is rooted in lived experience, operational knowledge and care centered frameworks. She understands where systems succeed, where they break down and how they can be reshaped to better serve both clinicians and communities. Her approach prioritizes sustainability integrity and human centered design over quick fixes.
During the COVID pandemic Anne returned to her creative roots completing both a BFA and MFA in Fine Arts. This period of artistic immersion deepened her exploration of trauma memory and emotional expression and continues to influence how she approaches healing today. For Anne art is not separate from clinical work. It is another language of truth processing and resilience that expands how individuals and systems understand healing.
Anne is the author of Therapized, a memoir that blends personal narrative with clinical reflection. Intentionally raw and honest the book resists polished conclusions and instead honors healing as nonlinear, complex and deeply human. Rather than offering solutions it offers recognition allowing readers to feel seen rather than fixed.
At the center of Anne’s work is a strong belief in intergenerational responsibility, a value embodied in her partnership with her son Joe Petraro. A youth changemaker advocate and nonprofit founder Joe is currently studying kinesiology and sports management at Louisiana State University where he continues to expand his vision for inclusive sports and mental health advocacy.
Through his nonprofit initiative Sports4All which is part of the Joe’s Be Kind campaign Joe has created inclusive programs in dance basketball baseball tennis and track designed for participation regardless of disability or ability. His work raises funds for inclusion in sports while challenging long standing barriers that exclude neurodivergent and differently abled individuals from athletic spaces. Deeply passionate about science, the human body and animal physiology Joe combines intellectual brilliance with emotional insight. With an IQ of one hundred sixty eight and a genuine curiosity about how bodies and minds work he represents a new generation of leadership defined by empathy intelligence and action.
Anne and Joe function not as a publicity driven duo but as a purpose driven partnership. Together they advocate for mental health awareness, neurodiversity and anti bullying efforts including open conversations around Tourette syndrome stigma and difference. Supported by Anne’s husband Ozzie Hyppolite, the family reflects a life rooted in faith, service and philanthropy. Their advocacy is lived daily not staged and their impact is felt across communities, institutions and families.
When asked about leadership and impact Anne reflects that the most meaningful change often arrives quietly. It shows up when someone feels safe enough to return when a clinician stays connected to their calling and when a system softens enough to let humanity through.
